The Baltimore Folk Music Society sponsors English Country Dance every Monday at St. Marks on the Hill on Reisterstown Road and American Contra and Square Dancing every Wednesday at the Lovely Lane Church on St. Paul Street. Charm City Junction, Blue Rhythm Boys, Dovetail Ensemble and Ken Waldman are all at the War Memorial Roots Music Showcase on Monday.

Iraqi oud master & composer Rahim Alhaj will receive the National Endowment for the Arts 2015 Heritage Fellowship award on Thursday at the Library of Congress and will perform at Lisner Auditorium of George Washington University on Friday along with other award winners. Both events are free.

On Friday, Uptown Concerts at The Cellar Stage kicks off a new season of folk concerts with The Kennedys. Ryan Scarberry opens. The Cellar Stage is located in Faith Community United Methodist Church of Hamilton on Harford Road. 410-521-9099

The HoCoFolkFest is Saturday from noon to 5pm at Shrine of St. Anthony in Ellicott City featuring Tanzania Ceili Band (Traditional Irish), Carrol County Cloggers, Darla Jean and the Somethin’ or Others (Old Time), Broesler School of Irish Dance, and Charm City Limits (Bluegrass).

How about a cave dance? Grand Caverns in Grottoes, VA will be illuminated with hundreds of candles while participants in period costumes enjoy dancing in the unique, magical environment to live music. Becca Dennison will be calling to the 3rd Maryland Volunteers. 540-249-5705
